More choices and way better than the normal Denny's. The deserts are GREAT. There is something for everyone, even picky eaters! I'm always here with my friends. While I wouldn't label the food "terrible", it is at best middling. And the portions have left me hungry. You know that old joke? "The food was terrible." "yeah, and the portions are so small." Here it rings true. While I wouldn't label the food "terrible", it is at best middling. And the portions have left me hungry. If the quality and quantity were increased, the prices might seem reasonable. As things stand, the prices are inflated and aggravating. The service doesn't help to soften the blow, either. Neither frequent nor attentive, the waitstaff have play a sustained flat note. One gets the feeling that Amphora grows complacent and smug in its position as Vienna's sole 24-hour eatery. Admittedly, I've never ordered dessert here. The entre and side dishes, however, leave much to be desired. Rather than proceed to a final sweet, I always decide to cut my losses and leave. One night's request for a side of vegetables produced a surprisingly tired combination of cauliflower and broccoli. The kitchen had boiled all spirit and texture out of the vegetables, leaving a pathetic, unseasoned melange that failed to delight a single sense. Having said all of that, I must note that Amphora has several positive attributes. Of course, it is open all the time. And I have yet to see the place dead. There's always activity. Some may find it too noisy, but many will enjoy the bustle. The smoke-free section is graciously breathable, despite the constant presence of smokers in their section. Amphora's standard of cleanliness is high for any restaurant, and especially so for a restaurant this busy and filled with a significant share of drunk and high customers. Would I return to Amphora? Yes, I would. I would return because, as the area's default late-night venue, it is often the site of friendly get-togethers. Friendship trumps a lousy dining experience any night of the week. Gee, I wish that Anita's were still open all ni Food Rating [4/10] Service Rating [4/10] Ambiance Rating [6/10] Exceptionally Good Restaurant Food, service, atmosphere and cleanliness are wonderful and prices are very reasonable. I've eaten there for over 10 years. It is predictable. Don't order anything fancy, and you won't be disappointed. The food is decent. For breakfast, try Belgian Waffles with Strawberries; for lunch, an Amphora Deluxe (hamburger); for supper, try fish, lamb, or roast beef specials. For soups, try chicken noodle; avoid onion or creamed soups. Large Greek salad is excellent light meal. The prices are about 20% too high. If the waiter, food or service fails to meet your standard, ask to see the manager and say what will make you satisfied -- such as substitution or (partial) credit on check. You may be able to get a better deal at another dinner such as Lee Highway Diner in Arlington, but don't confuse the custom service with some national franchise so-called diners The Amphora is the closest thing to a New York style neighborhood Greek-American restaurant for the greater Vienna, VA area. The Greek family that owns the Amphora in Vienna knows how to cook. However, I recommend avoiding Amphora's Diner Deluxe in Herndon where the food is marginal at best.
