Bailiwick Tempest Over Tea

We had an appallingly substandard experience at the Bailiwick Inn, Fairfax Virginia for tea. We had an appallingly substandard experience at the Bailiwick Inn, Fairfax Virginia for tea. The Bailiwick experience is mercifully unique to that establishment: 1. buffet tea (about which one is not notified when making reservations); 2. no serving implements at the buffet; communal platters of food are truly communal; 3. filthy tea cups 4. indiscrete manager who, when the dirty tea cups are brought to his attention, was so loud as to focus the entire attention of the guests in the room on the dirty tea cups; 5. no individual tea pot(s) on guests' tables 6. tea server with filthy hand(s) marked with dance stamp and ink scrawled with telephone numbers; 7. intermittent tea replenishment (at large intervals on time); 8. no lemon (after four requests, lemon finally arrived in time for a cold cup of tea). The charm of a National Trust property with Laura "Ashleyesque" decor was diminished by the absence of basic food handling considerations and celebration of the etiquette of tea.

One of the best dining experiences I have had.

Recently a friend the my office recommended the Bailiwick Inn for an anniversary dinner. The restaurant is located in an 19th century federal style home. When we arrived my wife and I were shown to the parlor and offered drinks and hors devours while looking at the menu. Recently a friend the my office recommended the Bailiwick Inn for an anniversary dinner. The restaurant is located in an 19th century federal style home. When we arrived my wife and I were shown to the parlor and offered drinks and hors devours while looking at the menu. The dining room was small and intimate, perfect for a romantic dinner. The food was fabulous and the service was great. They had a very good wine list and the prices weren't outragous for a good bottle of wine. At the end of the meal the chef came out of the kitchen and chatted with the guest.

Beautiful, but bad service and bad food

I had my wedding there and I am sure sorry! I had my wedding there and I am sure sorry! 1. The chef was rude and argued with me about my menu. 2. We had 45 people and at least 9 did not get any food. That's 20%! They actually ran out. While I was getting pictures taken, the waitress came in the parlor and announced that they were already out of appetizers and wanted to know what she should do. 3. We did not get a discount, partial refund or even an apology for the food. 4. They hovered over guests and took their drinks away as soon as they put them down which led to a bar bill significantly higher than the food bill. 5. They threw away my extra bubbles and wedding programs before all the guests left and I did not get to keep any. 6. We stayed in the bridal suite and we were not given any sort of congratulation gift such as a fruit basket, bottle of champaign, or box of chocolates. We did not even get hair conditioner. 7. Upon checking out the next morning, I was stopped at the front door with my hands full, in front of new guests, and confronted by the owner about an "unpaid balance." I let her know that there was no unpaid balance and even if there were, she knew my parents had paid the bill, and she obviously had their address since we had dealt with them for months. She still insisted that I wait while she went and checked. Stupidly, I did. When she came back, she said that I was free to go but not apologize for her mistake and improper way of handling it. 8. The toilet in the bridal suite overflowed for no apparent reason and when I politely and discretely let the owner know, she yelled at me and wanted to know what I put in it and if I turned the water off to keep it from overflowing onto the floor. 9. The food was cold. 10. I could keep going, but this is getting too long. I briefed the major issues though. Do not have any Important event here!
