The chef is French, and the more traditional dishes are most successful. Give serious thought to ordering the entire desert menu. Wiener schnitzel is the almost perfect dish, marred only by American veal and not using the cooking technique of my favorite version of this dish found only in a small restaurant in Vienna. On the other hand, the combination of the veal and the two sides, red cabbage sauerkraut and baked apple, combine into the prefect plate, one of those rare but wonderful combinations where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Ambiance-wise, one of the most pleasant settings anywhere. Good service, and entertainment when Chef Jean-Louis makes one of his frequent rounds of the tables. Must have deserts: Key Lime Pie and Huckleberry cheesecake. Haven’t yet met anyone who wasn’t bowled over by these.
