Reviews My husband and I love this restaurant. It's located inside an old train depot and is tastefully refinished with toy trains running along tracks near the ceiling. The food is always great. The menu offers a good variety and the prices are reasonable. You can't leave without a couple loaves of their famous poppyseed bread. It's delicious. My husband and I love this restaurant. We work & live in East Stroudsburg, so we have frequented (and loved it!!) and have 'known' the Depot since the end of its 'rail days'. Our wait staff person's name was Jeff. I had mentioned something to him about my beef not being quite done enough. He asked how I had asked for it, I told him medium. He then flopped it over onto it's other side on the plate right in front of me (with my plate still in front of me) telling me that usually it really is ok if you just turn it over. I was trying to discreetly be tolerant of his behavior. It was an Anniversary Dinner for us and we were seeing a movie right after at Pocono Cinema. This young man never returned to ask if the meal was acceptable, nor did he return to see if we needed anything else. That was it! Upon receiving the check after telling him that we didn't want anything else... he left. We had a schedule we were trying to keep to get to the Cinema, so, my husband took the check and paid out front while I stayed at the table. The young fellow charged over to us upon us leaving telling us, 'We had to pay'. My husband calmly told him that he had taken the check to the front, and this young man was quite insistent, asking, 'Who did you pay'!? Blocking us from leaving, then turned and scurried to the front. As he came back perspiring from rushing, he told us, 'ok'! I rather assume because the beef was not done enough for me and my system just could not tolerate it. Never have I had such an awful experience. I have never had this happen there before. Had this been a first impression, it would have been a very poor one. Not all its cracked up to be The Dansbury Depot is overrated. I feel sorry for folks who enjoy dining at the depot. Management is horrible, they treat their staff poorly, I have seen the kitchen and it is nauseating. Food is saved and reserved to unknowing guests. I have also seen cockroaches and heard many stories from other guests who have also seen them. There are no health inspectors in Monroe county and I'm sure that is the only reason why this dump has not been closed down. The sauce was horrible and they weren't cooked well and the portions were quite small. Our server had little to no personality, and was slow. Our appetizers were skimpy and not worth the price at all. As a teen I loved going with my family to the Depot for dinner but it has gone way downhill in the past few years.
