ReviewsFantastic food, great service You are in for a treat at the Alexander House in Oxford, Ohio. The ambiance is the first thing that greets you - quiet rooms, spacious place settings, a charming jumble of furnishings set the stage for a relaxing meal. The waitstaff is ever attentive without hovering - and is very knowledgeable about the food preparation as well as the wine list. My husband and I both opted for steak - and were treated to the best steak we've ever had. The meal started out with a very interesting salad of field greens complete with apples, nuts, and dried cranberries. It was complemented by a fantastic champagne vinagrette. My husband opted for a cup of soup - that night, potato bacon, and it was delicious. The steak was accompanied by garlic mashed potatoes, and grilled vegetables. Tender, juicy, flavorful - it was the best! The meal was finished with the creme brulee special - and some great coffee. The meal was paced great - a talent truly lost these days.. We never felt hurried or rushed. You are in for a treat at the Alexander House in Oxford, Ohio. This past weekend was graduation at Miami University in Oxford and we took our family (8 of us) to eat dinner at the Alexander House. The ambiance was wonderful and the meal was superb! We all had something different to eat and all the food was excellent. The complaint that I have came at the end of our meal. After handing our check to us, we were asked if we would take our coffee and dessert to the bar, because other people were waiting for our table. We said "no" and that we would be done in a few minutes. He then came back again and asked if there was a problem splitting up the check. (He had asked that because we had not promptly handed him the credit card!) That was very rude and was an insult to us! These people were "OUR GUESTS"! After spending $400 in a restaurant, I would think we would be able to at least sit there and drink our coffee and finish our dessert without being rushed and pushed out of our chairs! I think Alexander House needs to start thinking more about their customers and stop thinking about how much money they can make in one evening! They ruined a perfect evening! The food was awesome; I really enjoyed the filet with port wine reduction. Like all restaurants on graduation weekend in Oxford, the place was packed. Towards the end of the meal we were asked to take our drinks to the bar to free up the table, but it wasn't an unreasonable request; I'd eaten at the Alexander House before and the pace was entirely leisurely, but with graduation, the population of Oxford doubles and if they had been running with the same pace, I'm sure they wouldn't have been able to accomodate all the requests for reservations. (By the way, make yours early for grad weekend- they book up several months ahead of time.)Once we were in the bar, the bartender was all too happy to get us anything we needed. Far and away the best food in Oxford. I already know where I'm eating when I come back for class reunions and such.
