Food Rating [8/10] Service Rating [8/10] Ambiance Rating [6/10] Soft Spot for Hai Hong Far and away the best Asian restaurant in Ithaca. You can't beat the brunch, attractively priced and plentiful. Hai Hong's chefs understand how to manipulate subtle flavors and textures. The staples like egg rolls and dumplings are not frozen, but made fresh. The service is outstanding -- Hai Hong employs caring, hard-working staff. Far and away the best Asian restaurant in Ithaca. You can't beat the brunch, attractively priced and plentiful. Ok, here's another thing I love about HH...I asked the owner recently what Hai Hong means, and she held up a picture of a shrimp boat looking ship. It turns out that Hai Hong was the name of the ship that carried 1800+ people out of Vietnam in search of freedom in the US. She had tears in her eyes as she told me about it in halting English. Go to Hai Hong for the food, the atmosphere (even Chinese karoke on weekends -- very surreal), and the people.
