ReviewsService is TERRIBLE I used to go to Frankie and Johnnie's Pine Tavern a lot. Overall, the food is okay. Not the best food for Italian, but the dishes are huge and outrageous. There absolutely no way you will finish your plate. So you're better off sharing. I used to go to Frankie and Johnnie's Pine Tavern a lot. Overall, the food is okay. You wait over 1/2 hour for your food. Most of the time it arrives cold, and get this: They don't accept credit cards. ONLY form of payment is CASH. COME on!! Do you think the baseball players carry around CASH!?! If you have to choose, don't go there for dinner, especially on a week-end. Stick to City Island. But, for lunch it's okay; better service. At lunch time the food actually gets to you HOT instead of ICE COLD and you don't have to wait around for them to heat it up. Good service The Pine is an excellent place for Italian, steaks and seafood. Large portions and great value. Good service and a great atmosphere. Many Pro ball players dine at the Pine. Yes, it gets crowded, so don't go if you're looking for a quiet, romantic evening. But for good food in a family-style environment, it's perfect! One of my favorite places to eat! While I have never had terrible service, or cold food at Frankie and Johnnie's, it can be a bit taxing waiting for your table - even with a reservation. But once you're in, it is well worth the wait!!! Tremendous portions of delectible dishes await - and the service is quite good, considering how busy it gets. I visit at least twice a month - and during the summer months, expect to see your favorite Yankee or Met player!!! Honestly, have not been to Frankie & Johnnie's lately but I do remember how delicious everything is at Pine Tavern. My husband and I went only for a quick meal. We only had a sandwich and salad. Everything was awesome with enough leftover to bring home. Service and atmosphere just as delightful as the original Frankie & Johnnie's. The only thing that the size of the restaurant is not large, but I have to agree very romantic with outside space for dining under the stars. Pine Too just as good as Frankie & Johnnie's. They make sure you don't leave hungry and the drinks they whip up are amazing. I will be there on 11/2/02 celebrating another birthday. I' CAN'T EVEN START TO EXPLAINE HOW GOOD THE FOOD AND SERVICE WAS IT BLEW ME AWAY. THE SEAFOOD DISHES WERE SO FRESH THAT IT JUMPED RIGHT OFF MY PLATE. THE CHICKEN PARM WAS BETTER THAN MY MOTHER'S AND THOSE ARE HARD SHOES TO FILL. I WON'T EAT ANYWHERE ELSE THANKS FOR A GREAT EXPERIENCE. The food was wonderful and the service great as well. Courteous waitstaff anticipated what we wanted and made sure our experience was a great one. We ordered dishes "to share" and still ended up with leftovers to take home. Thanks folks! We had a 20 min wait at the bar, which was fine. We sat in the center dining room and aside from a screaming child next to me the ambiance was fine. The service was a bit slow but very accomodating and eager to compensate for the "screamer". We went to Pine Tavern last weekend 5/4/03 at 4:30PM on Sunday. There was enough food for two persons on each plate. The salad was crisp and fresh and plentiful. The restaurant was well worth the trip and took the edge off the Yankee's loss to Oakland. If you are hungry this is the place for you. Remember they only accept Franklin,Jackson,Hamilton and Lincoln, there's not credit or debit here! Huge portions and very good. Price is very reasonable and location is near the Zoo. Make a day of it. Great time/ most of the time. 7/10 rating. However - you can wait more than one hour for a table, people behind you get seated before you, and you may have to share tables and be cramped ( unless you are in the back room/ very nice and spacious - request it ). The service is really slow, so request a menu before you get seated and order when they seat you. Or go at lunch time, much more pleasant and fast. Food is always hot, so don't believe the reviews. You will feel rushed after waiting so long, so take your time. They are trying to turn the tables over. Parking can be a problem and be wary of some of the blocks ( your car may be gone when you come out ). Use caution or take a cab. Bad Experience: We waited alomost 2 hours one Sunday for a table on a holiday weekend. We had this moran named Johnny ( who knew everyone that worked there )sharing a table with us. All he did was bore us and his girlfriend Diane with his ramblings about how his acting career and his financial job that he wanted to quit. He complained to us and the staff about the price of everything including soda and we even saw him taking bottles water and soda from his napsack to fill ice filled glasses he kept requesting. Avoid his table as he is always there when we decide to dine. We have seen him many times after only to pity the poor couple that has to share a table with him. He looks like the character Screech from TV and his girlfriend is a tall leggy swedish looking model. The crowd is interesting/ a good mix of male and female eye candy for your viewing. Scantily clad italian women are my prefernce. Good mix of Good fella types. Amusing and very fun. After hearing about the portions & the exceptional food went with a croud of 15. Made reservations on Mon. went on Sat.keeping in mind what past reviews have said about crowds. True,15 people is sometimes too large a party & long tables do not make for the best socialization. The waiter couldn't have been nicer & accommodating Well finally took the plunge & tried Frankie & Johnnie's Pine Tavern. True,15 people is sometimes too large a party & long tables do not make for the best socialization. The waiter couldn't have been nicer & accommodating He tried very hard to please, bringing extra very large salad platters & garlic bread, which everyone enjoyed. What happened to him between the salad & ordering, who knows. About 6 or 7 platters of appetizers were ordered, trying to cover a variety of selections. Baked clams were overdone, dry, sauce in mussels was below standard, too thick & heavy. There was some eggplant rollatini that was decent. Raw clams were best ever had. Hearing so much about the very large portions of entrees everyone was cautious about ordering since filling up on bread & salad. Well,an order of bacala went back, done very poorly, steak dishes were acceptable fairly large, parm dishes were same, but when it came to the fish dishes, like filet of sole oreganata & shrimp scampi, the serving were very scant. The shrimp had about 8-10 very small shimp in a large platter which made the sevings look even smaller. Not much to share. The pasta on the side were decent portions, not particularly tasty. All in all the it took 3 hours to get our meals. At best I would rate this restaurant as fair.
