Neighborhood Business Not Very Neighborly

I have always been in favor of supporting local businesses over large chains when I can help it. I would shop at Ron' Market instead of SuperAmerica. I would rather bring my car to Tisdell's than Tires Plus. It used to be that I would rather have a pizza delivered by Beek's than Domino's. I would think that the manager of a small, locally owned business would understand the concept of satisfying the customer. When treated poorly I may be quiet or I may let them know, but unless I leave with a resolution I will almost never come back. I would think that the manager of a small, locally owned business would understand the concept of satisfying the customer. When treated poorly I may be quiet or I may let them know, but unless I leave with a resolution I will almost never come back. I worked at Beek's all thru high school and one of the current owners would probably remember me. My wife and I will order food from them at least every couple of weeks and I love to tell people that have never been there how great the pizza is. Last night I ordered a large pan pizza, not the usual (their thin crust has always been my favorite) but at the time it sounded good. I waited 30 minutes, the driver showed up, I gave him my check and he handed over my dinner. As soon as I opened the box I realized they had made a mistake and delivered a thin crust pizza. Normally I wouldn't care but I was really in the mood for something particular. I called the manager and let him know what had happened. This is about how the conversation went... ME: I ordered a pan pizza, it was just delivered and I received a thin crust pizza. MGR: We don't have pan pizza. ME: I just ordered a pan pizza 30 minutes ago, I guess someone there made a mistake. MGR: We don't have pan pizza. ME: That's fine, I just need to return this pizza and get my check back. MGR: We don't have pan pizza and we don't give refunds. ME: I ordered one thing and you gave me something else, I just want my money back. MGR: We don't give refunds, would you like something else or store credit. ME: No, I just want my money back. MGR: We don't give refunds. At this time I left a message for the owner (who I still haven't heard from). I took the pizza back to the store and of course had the same conversation. I let him know that this was just stealing and not right. He offered up that I should call the police. I did, and of course the local precinct told me what I already know...nothing they can do. Option 1: Cancel my check and pay the $10 fee. Option 2: Take them to small claims court for $13. Option 3. Never do business with them again. I am going with Option 3. If only the manager realized that he loses less by giving me my $13 back and getting my continued business (probably an average of $300 per year...every year). Not to mention that I have a big mouth and will let every one I know hear about this adventure. The coupons are off the fridge and will be replaced by their competition as I help to build their business at an average of $300 per year...every year.
