We admit we're food snobs. Our only excuse is being spoiled by living in NYC most of our lives. We relocated here figuring SOMEONE should be able to make a pizza... After months of soggy, over-doughy, Wonderbready, black pepper-is-the-only-seasoning-we-use, even-frozen-tastes-better pies, we thought our "better quality of life" move just might have been a mistake. Pollution, crime, noise... a three hour drive to see a tree... yea, yea. At least we could get a good pizza! Then we hit upon Tesoro's. The accents, ambiance and atmosphere made us feel like we had stepped from Harlow Street, into some sort of a transport machine, and dropped onto Mott St in Little Italy or into the heart of Brooklyn (with a "y"). Seeing the chef/owner throwing the dough into the air to make our dinner brought tears to our eyes. And oh what pie... crispy, thin-bottomed, perfectly seasoned sauce (or as my aunts call it, gravy), the right amount of slippery cheese. It's the best around. We've since recommended it to many others, and they've never called Pizza Hut again. Other New Yawkers call it nothing short of a miracle. One gripe is that the service can be a bit slow, especially on a Friday night, so give yourself some extra time. Note that you should give yourself some extra time, not go anywhere else. (they also don't deliver or sell slices--they will make half pies. Sicilian pies--the square ones--can be made with advanced notice) So, those of you who have never had--or really miss-- a simple (ask for a pineapple pie, and you'll be sent to Frank's Bakery, folks), great, simply great pie, there's really no other chioce but Tesoro's.
