ReviewsNot What You Expect in a Strip Mall Blue Ox has a pleasantly unexpected classy atmosphere, especially considering it is located in a strip mall. The food is fresh, creative and delightful. The service is outstanding, and I almost always receive a visit from one of the owners. It is a great place to have a quiet lunch, dinner or a group outing. We stumbled across it quite unexpectedly and have taken every opportunity to enjoy visits there. The atmosphere is excellent and you can go there all dressed up or in jeans and a sweater. The specials are always well worth the price. Since I first ordered the a special, I have yet to order back off the regular menu that is also packed with delicious entrees. What started as a very quiet family dinner was quickly turned otherwise when a voice bellowed out of the kitchen. There was a man insulting the staff with foul language. I went to speak to the Owner David D. Bromley and he was the one yelling in the kitchen. His foul mouth was then directed at me and he refused to speak with me. My family and I agreed this was not the place for our dinner. We apologized to the waitress, had her cancel our order and left a tip on our way out. In the parking lot Mr. Bromley aproached me and proceeded to verbally abuse me in a threatining manner and to tell me how awful the town of Olney is. We all have bad days but, Olney is a family town and our families don't want to hear the foul language especially toward the neighborhood youth that work at the establishment. I suggest staying away from this one. HE WAS TOLD TO WAIT OUTSIDE TILL THEY WERE READY FOR HIM! I GUESS THEY WEREN'T INTERESTED IN PLUMPING UP THEIR BAR TAB. WE STOOD IN LINE 20 MIN BEFORE ARRIVING AT THE BUFFET. THE POOR GUY MAKING OMELETS WAS BREAKING A SWEAT TRYING PICK UP HIS PACE. THE BACON WAS NOT COOKED. WHEN ASKED OF OUR WAITRESS IF WE COULD HAVE IT COOKED FURTHER SHE SAID "IT'LL BE COOKED THE SAME WAY BUT I COULD BRING YOU MORE IF YOU WANT IT?" ONE OF THE BUS BOYS/WAITER/SERVERS WAS HOLDING A WATER PITCHER WITH HIS THUMB IN THE INSIDE (WATER TOUCHING THE THUMB)! THE FOOD WAS NOT TASTY. THE FRENCH TOAST WAS COLD, BACON & SAUSAGE COLD & UNDERCOOKED, WE LEFT OUR PLATES HALF FULL. IN SUMMARY, THE STAFF NEEDS MORE TRAINING IN CUSTOMER SERVICE. MY HUSBAND & I ARE BOTH PUBLIC SERVANTS. WHEN WE HAVE THE OCCASION TO GO OUT FOR A PREPARED MEAL IT IS QUITE AN OCCASION. I NEGLECTED TO FOLLOW MY INNER VOICE WHEN IT SAID, "GET OUT BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE." IN MY OPINION, WE WASTED MORE THAN $50.00, OUR TIME AND OUR APPETITES. OUR 11 YEAR OLD SON WHO ACCOMPANIED US WAS CELEBRATING HIS BIRTHDAY TODAY ALSO. NEEDLESS TO SAY THE EVENTS MENTIONED DAMPENED OUR EVENT. I DON'T PLAN TO VISIT THIS ESTABLISHMENT NOR ENDORSE IT. When I questioned the bill to the waitress, she disappeared and returned to tell me that since we didn't say "early bird" when we ordered, that the early bird dishes we ordered had to be charged full price. This despite the fact that the entrees we ordered were only listed under the early bird section. Had a nice meal there tonight only to be over-billed for the early bird special. After seeing the previous comment about the ownership, I'm glad I didn't challenge him on this policy. Could have gotten nasty. Food Rating [8/10] Service Rating [8/10] Ambiance Rating [8/10]
