ReviewsYour Basic Diner Stick to the basics and you won't go wrong at the Athenian. Their fish has never done me wrong. Spanakopita was less memorable. Lots of families and older people are greeted by name by the waitresses. Stick to the basics and you won't go wrong at the Athenian. Their fish has never done me wrong. Food Rating [6/10] Service Rating [8/10] Ambiance Rating [4/10] its okay My daughter and I have the fish there occasionally, and it is pretty good. I like the fried squid sometimes, and order skordalia to go with it. The Greek dishes are okay but nothing remarkable. I usually end up a bit disappointed with them. The last time I tried the galaktoboureko (which had some other name there), and I was very disappointed. My daughter and I have the fish there occasionally, and it is pretty good. The last time I tried the galaktoboureko (which had some other name there), and I was very disappointed. Last time we were there, the service was dreadful, and it was not the least bit busy, so I don't know what the problem was. That will deter me from going back for a while. Food Rating [4/10] Ambiance Rating [6/10] Its Wonderful if You Want REAL Greek Food, Not Neo-frills! We've eaten the chef-owner's food for decades. He was the cook at the Acropolis for approximately 30 years, a wonderful place that had almost a cult following. When they closed, my husband and I thought we'd never taste those savory dishes again--all the Greek favorites--until rediscovering them at the Athenian. The taramasalata is divine (ask for Pita bread with it)! Spinach pie, grape leaves in lemon sauce, lamb for the male meatlover...mmmm! Flogera is my favorite dessert. It's supposedly the same as galaktoboureko, but their flogera is much less rich and cloying than the galaktoboureko we've had elsewhere. Flogera tastes like a cross between baklava and flan. The food is the best part, but the owner/hostess is so lovely, it's worth going just to meet her. Today she showed us their kitchen--superbly organized and spotlessly clean. If you live near Lexington on the Arlington line, you're lucky. Our only fault with this place is that it is too far from home. Alas! We've eaten the chef-owner's food for decades.
