Top : United_States : MA : Brookline : FigsOne of several outlets for chef Todd Englishs more casual cuisine, Figs features thin-crust "designer" pizzas made in a brick oven, as well as pastas and other Mediterranean-style entrees. The atmosphere is modern and sleek, with tables set fairly close together. Other branches of this restaurant can be found in Charlestown (the original location), on Beacon Hill in Boston, in Wellesley, and at LaGuardia Airport in New York. 1208 Boylston St. [Rt. 9] Brookline MA United States 02467 Telephone : 617.738.9992 Opening Times : Mon.-Thu. 11:30a.m.-2:30p.m., 5p.m.-10p.m.; Fri. 11:30a.m.-2:30p.m., 5p.m.-11p.m.; Sat. ReviewsAnother Good Figs. This was either the third or fourth outpost in Todd English's chain of moderately priced gourmet pizza and pasta eateries, and it's one of the better ones. It's certainly more spacious than the orignal, with a decent-sized bar area to hold the crowds waiting for a table. The pizzas are thin, crispy, and usually quite tasty. The kitchen occasionally stumbles when trying to be too creative with the toppings; some ideas seem to have been created by a menu writer, rather than anyone who had actually tasted the ingredients. Pastas are generally quite good, too, but are a pricier option than the pizza. Set along a busy stretch of Route 9 in Chestnut Hill, the trendy dark ambiance offers a respite from the strip malls and shopping centers outside. It can be a little cramped (pizzas arrive on pedistals to save table real estate), but not as much as the Charlestown original. Service can vary widely depending on the luck of the draw -- I've had experiences that ranged from excellent to a rather generous so-so. Takeout is available, but be warned that those thin pizzas get cold fast. On the positive side, they also warm up quickly in a very hot oven.
