ReviewsDont eat here! The Gazebo's menu begins with a lengthy set of legalistic disclosures informing the customer of everything s/he will not be allowed to do and listing charges for everything from substitutions to extra plates. And the charges are phrased so that "There will be a MINIMUM charge..."--implying that the restaurant could unilaterally impose higher charges. This should have warned us to stay away--the disclosures are there for a reason, and the restaurant seems eager to charge money for whatever it can, without offering anything of value in its food or service. This should have warned us to stay away--the disclosures are there for a reason, and the restaurant seems eager to charge money for whatever it can, without offering anything of value in its food or service. In addition, the restaurant attaches an 18% "service charge" to all meals. All meals, not just those served to large parties. I ate there with my husband and a relative, and we had the mandatory service charge imposed. The service was abysmal--brusque to the point of rudeness, noisy, intrusive. The waiter (I believe he was also the owner) spilled a sauce on our relative's Coach purse, then tried to take the purse to clean the stain. When our relative objected to having her purse taken, and asked for a towel and a small glass of club soda to clean it herself, he brought only a napkin that had been wetted down with a small amount of club soda. He never apologized. He forgot our iced teas, then never refilled them. When he brought the bill, he hovered only two feet from us until we took out a credit card, even though we were obviously in the middle of a conversation. Then, he snatched the bill and card before we could even place it on the tray. In addition, the food was both overpriced and disappointing. The house special, Khyber Shrimp, was $16.95, yet it consisted of a below-average salad made with iceberg lettuce, about two tablespoons of fried vegetables that had obviously been sitting a long time, some soggy rice, and 6 small-medium shrimps that were mealy-textured, so obviously not fresh. My husband's chicken salad featured the same iceberg lettuce, topped with a chicken breast that had obviously been cooked earlier, then plopped atop the lettuce without any reheating. There were many more things that happened, but they are so small that it's hard to describe them to someone who wasn't there. The accumulation of all the small unpleasantries, however, created a truly horrendous dining experience. We wanted to object to the service charge, but the waiter/owner was so unremittingly unpleasant that we figured we'd be opening the door for an ugly fight, so we paid the charge and left. It is a huge disservice to send anyone to this restaurant. Our experience was certainly not isolated. We overheard arguments and complaints from other patrons there at the same time, and when our relative returned to her B&B, she found a listing in the inn's own restaurant guide that said many guests have complained about The Gazebo, and the inn recommends that guests not eat there Food Rating [4/10] Service Rating [2/10] Ambiance Rating [6/10]
