ReviewsThe only place for miles around This is a real desert bar. One of a kind, with lots of atmosphere. It was used briefly for a scene in "Erin Brokovich". A favorite of the off-road community, on weekends most customers arrive by dirt bike, quad or truck. They offer camping on their fifty acres, located on Hwy 247, about halfway between Lucerne and Barstow. A great place to set up a telescope, it is dark sky territory. The customers can look a little scary, but don't worry about them. The management is well armed. This is a real desert bar. One of a kind, with lots of atmosphere. My first visit to the Slash X was around 1968, when my dad and I arrived on dirt bikes to have a little lunch. We used to camp and ride off road in the Stoddard Valley, and the Slash X soon became the highligh of weekend trips. Hamburgers and cold soda (beer in my adult years) were always the perfect end to a desert weekend. Hamburgers and cold soda (beer in my adult years) were always the perfect end to a desert weekend. 36 years later the Slash X still serves up great burgers and other roadside diner fare. The place looks exactly like what it is: a hole-in-the-wall that secretly harbors great food, tons of atmosphere, and an overall satisfying experience. Eating at the Slash X is like visiting an old mining camp, with spartan decor and pelniful vittles. Stop by! Food Rating [8/10] Service Rating [8/10] Ambiance Rating [8/10]
