ReviewsGorgeous lunches in Edinburghs most famous deli Delicious fresh made Italian sandwiches and snacks in a lively cafe at the back of this bustling deli. Produce is shipped in daily from Italy, and the bread is made fresh on the premises. A lovely spot for lunch, but be aware that it gets very busy at weekends and you may have a wait (you'll no doubt find something in the shop to keep you occupied, though). Highly recommended, and a local favourite. Delicious fresh made Italian sandwiches and snacks in a lively cafe at the back of this bustling deli. As a regular of V&C I am really angry at the rip off that is their festival menu. Ok we all know that they play on quality and I don't mind paying for that, but this special menu takes the tourist biscuit for bare faced cheek for inflated prices. The limited menu on the face of it offers a range of choices, however prices for starters hitting the £8 mark, leave an unpleasant taste. Main courses at £18 make me feel really queezy. I chose pork tenderloin, which on arrival took the form of one slice of fatty roast pork on a sea of watery, underseasoned mash. The pork had two bites of meat, the mash, inedible. Staff make matters worse by lacking any concern and taking far too long to clear. Luckily puddings and coffee remain top notch. Had I not been with friends I would have been more forthcoming to management in respect of my anger at their end product. It's a cafe for crying out loud. Not a three michelin star restaurant. I won't be back, my friends won't be back. An overpriced menu offering a range that is available in many of the cities bars ensures that the meal will not be repeated. It's shameless that such a good name can fleece it's paying customers in such a way. Food Rating [4/10] Service Rating [4/10] Ambiance Rating [6/10]
