Pandering for pannekoeks

A pannekoek is a fluffier-than-average pancake stuffed with a filling, often savory. In the United States, pannekoeks are likely to be dinner-plate-sized puffs with the fillings mixed in, but Harrie's pannekoeks are more like thick crepes. The place is jammed for brunch on a sunny Sunday, making desirable outdoor seating difficult to come by. Outdoors is the place to eat, despite the generic Tourist Trap Muzak (which was actually playing "What a Wonderful World"). Indoor seating is less comfortable than it looks, with low tables and high chairs less than ideal for crossing one's legs. A pannekoek with bacon and cheese was strangely bland, as if the cheese had been heavily processed. Fresh-squeezed orange juice was much more satisfying, and waitstaff was sedulous about bringing water. It might, though, have been wiser to show up before noon, when the full breakfast menu is still available, with a wider range of pannekoek fillings that include ostrich.
